I have been playing hammered dulcimer since
1985.
Beginning in 1988, I started teaching interested
people in my hometown area how to play the
dulcimer.
Since 1991, I have been the music director for the
Ithaca (Michigan) Just for Fun Dulcimer Club. This
Club meets on the second Monday of each month
at the Ithaca Senior Center from 7 to 9 p.m.
I also assist the Glass Notes Dulcimer Club in
Weidman, Michigan which meets the third Monday
of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Weidman
Community Building.
I attend the annual Evart Dulcimer Funfest and
have been a teacher in the one-on-one workshop
since 1994.
Beginning in May of 2000 I signed on with the
Wheatland Music Organization as a hammered
dulcimer teacher.  The Wheatland Music
Organization offers subsidized lessons for various
acoustic instruments.  I have also conducted
hammered dulcimer workshops for the Wheatland
Festivals.
About Kathy
Now I have expanded my capability of teaching hammered dulcimer lessons by
recording each lesson on a video CD.  These video CDs can be played in home
DVD players
*.  During the lesson, I play the song through once or twice and
then break the hammer pattern down measure by measure, just as I do during
private lessons.  By the end of the lesson, the student should be able to play
along with me.  The nice thing about having your own video CD is that you can
re-play any portion of the song you are having trouble with.

*PLEASE NOTE:  Not all DVD players have the capability of playing video CDs.
The machines we have found that DO play these are also JPEG compatible
and are usually the least expensive DVD players.  Please check the box of your
DVD player to see if it plays JPEG, CDR, and VCD (video CD).  Once your
video CD loads, the title of the song will be displayed on your TV screen.
Depending on the model and using the remote control that came with your DVD
player, you will press 1, or enter, or play to begin viewing your video.
